What is PFAS?
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of synthetically produced chemicals comprising over 10,000 identified substances. They are called highly fluorinated substances or “forever chemicals” because they are extremely difficult to break down in the environment and have been linked to adverse health effects. PFAS have been used in food packaging due to their ability to repel water and grease and withstand high temperatures.
